Special Notice: The Hammond Marina

The Marina will be closed October 1, 2006, until May 1, 2008, to all boat traffic due to construction.

Chicago Area Maritime Security Zones

There are several security zones in effect on Lake Michigan by order of the Captain of the Port of Chicago.

Current (Ongoing) Lake Michigan Restrictions

The following security zones restrict recreational boating traffic around Chicago’s water intake and filtration facilities, nuclear power plants and Navy Pier.

  • Between the Jardine water filtration plant and Navy Pier
  • Between Navy Pier and Dime Pier
  • Within a 100 yard radius around the 68th Street Crib (water intake)
  • Within a 100 yard radius of the Dever Crib (water intake)
  • Within a 100 yard radius of 79th Street Water Filtration Plant
  • Within a 1000 yard, square perimeter extending from the shore of the Zion Nuclear Power Plant
  • Within a 800 x 1000 yard perimeter extending from the shore of the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant
  • Within a 1000 yard, square perimeter extending from the shore of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant
